Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular provider. On their end, three records are set up automatically when the domain address is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain address where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that handles the emails for that specific domain name. The site and the email hosting are typically perceived as one thing, when they're in fact two different services. Having separate records for them will permit you to have them with different companies if you wish. For example, some new service provider can have excellent uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain address to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you could get the best of both providers. These records are checked whenever you want to open a site or send an email - in any case, the provider whose name servers are used for the domain name is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed site or your e-mail will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting account through our company and you would like to move either your site or your e-mails to an alternative provider, it will take you literally just two mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard two, it will not take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you modify or set up won't take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will remain active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated servers which we provide, you will have complete control over the records of all domain addresses and subdomains you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each of them has from the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and changing any record takes only a few mouse clicks. If you want to change your web or email hosting provider, you can edit the required record and point your domain name to the other company for one of the services, while you still carry on using the other one through us. Also you can keep the main domain address here, while you edit the A record of only one of its subdomains. In case you are editing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard two we have, you can create them with ease and set a different priority for every one.
